Join us for our next virtual cooking class and meal kit and learn how to make comforting springtime recipes with Co-op instructor, Carl Reisman! This class will cover how to make Spanakopita, White Bean & Kale soup, and an Apple Tart! Tune in for the Zoom live class and cook along in your kitchen using the pre-portioned meal kit and enjoy a delicious dinner and dessert by the end of class. Carl will be sharing tips and tricks that he's learned over the years as a professional cook, plus memories from our old Co-op days.

 

The menu includes:

  • Spanakopita - a traditional spinach and feta savory pie layered with flaky phyllo dough
  • White Bean & Kale Soup - a healthy and hearty vegetable soup with carrots, onions, potatoes, white beans, kale, celery and tomatoes in a flavorful broth
  • Apple Tart - with apricot glaze and homemade pastry crust

 

Register using the form below and preorder your class meal kit to pick up on Friday, March 22nd from 4-6pm in the Common Ground Flatlander Classroom. Tune in for the virtual Zoom live cooking class on Saturday, March 23rd from 3-5pm. Recipes are portioned to serve 2-3 people. Kitchen Equipment Needed:

  • A couple of mixing bowls
  • Soup Pot
  • Pie or Cake Pan
  • Baking or casserole dish that is roughly 10''x16''
  • Scissors for phyllo dough
  • Knife, grater, peeler, and cutting board
  • Optional: pastry/basting brush

 

About Instructor: Carl Reisman

 

 

Carl Reisman cooked professionally in New Orleans, Oregon, Iowa, and in Champaign-Urbana including work as the Deli and Bakery Manager at New Pioneer Coop in Iowa City, and Strawberry Fields in both Champaign and Urbana. He has taught baking and vegetarian cooking classes for Common Ground. He is the former News Gazette restaurant critic and Guest Chef in Residence on WILL AM Focus 580.
