Artist Statement:

Zoya Wu is a painter and illustrator whose work explores the intersection of the natural and artificial worlds. Inspired by the evolving relationships between urban life, flora, and fauna, she creates pieces that balance careful observation with vivid imagination. Working primarily in watercolor, Zoya blends traditional and digital techniques to combine fine detail, expressive color, and abstract environments.

Raised in Urbana, Illinois, Zoya earned her Bachelor of Arts in Illustration from Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She now lives and works in Urbana, where she spends much of her time painting, reading, drawing, and caring for her many animals, including her beloved bunny, Basil. Local Food For All Mural

Design by Madelyn Witruk

3Q8A8432.jpg

This project was funded by a 2021 grant from the Urbana Arts and Culture Program and the mural was designed by local artist, Madelyn Witruk. The mural encapsulates images of the local food movement, food access, diversity of Urbana residents, cultural cuisines, and highlights imagery from our local farms, like Blue Moon Farm, Sola Gratia Farm, and Prairie Fruits Farm & Creamery. This artwork aims to serve as a celebration of Urbana's uniqueness, including its strong local food system, its vibrant art community, and its warm, inclusive culture.
