June Board News

2015 is not quite half-full, as it were, and yet it has already been an eventful year for Common Ground. This month, I have three brief updates from your Board.

Second Store: Your Board of Directors began the year with intensive reviews of our market studies, financial pro forma, operational readiness and lease with contingencies, leading up to approval of the lease in March and announcement of the site selected for our second store. We’re excited about the opportunities and challenges to come as we work towards our Champaign store and continued progress towards all of our Ends. From the record turnout at our spring meeting of owners, we’re not alone in our excitement. Want to take action? If you aren’t already, become an owner If you are already an owner, refer a friend. Prize drawings will be happening throughout the owner drive, for new owners and those who refer them. There will also be more second store owner input sessions and an owner loan campaign sometime next fall; stay tuned for updates.

General Manager: May has been bittersweet, as we said goodbye to our long-time General Manager, Jacqueline Hannah. We are incredibly fortunate to have had her leadership, and wish her the best of everything in her new position. Your Board of Directors is in the midst of a robust national search for the next GM. While that search is being completed, we are pleased to report that Kevin Bowersox-Johnson, Common Ground’s Human Resources Manager, has agreed to serve as interim General Manager. Kevin was Jacqueline’s designated emergency successor and has been working closely with Jacqueline for several weeks now to prepare for this role.

Board of Directors: It’s never too soon to start thinking about fall elections! If you are interested in running for the Board of Directors next fall or even think you might be, check out a board meeting this summer and learn more about what we do. Board meetings are held the second Monday of the month, from 6:15-8:15pm, in the Lincoln Square conference room.

In cooperation,

Julie Zilles
