Raspberry Chocolate Hand Pies
Celebrate this Valentine's Day with your cutie pie by making hand pies together! There's no better way to say I love you than with a sweet treat. Flakey crust, tart raspberries, sweet chocolate, and a dash of salt make for an irresistible dessert! Find the recipe below.
-
In a large mixing bowl, sift the flour, sugar, and salt.
-
Cube up butter and toss into the mix until the butter is incorporated. Mix until it reaches a breadcrumb consistency.
-
Make a well in the middle of the flour mixture, add egg and cold water, and mix together. If the dough isn't clumping together, add water sparingly. Once it is a good consistency, flour your countertop and form into a ball. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
-
While the dough cools, combine the jam and fresh raspberries together, gently mash them together, set aside.
-
Once the dough has cooled remove it from the fridge and allow it to warm up, roughly 15 minutes on the counter.
-
Flour the countertops and begin rolling out the dough, roughly 1/8 inch thick. Note: the egg will cause the dough to rise.
-
Stamp or cut out heart shapes. You will need two pieces of dough per hand pie so cut accordingly.
-
Add the fruit filling and chocolate chips to one piece of dough. Place the second piece on top and crimp them together with a fork.
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. While the oven warms, brush the tops of the pies with an egg wash. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the pies are golden brown.
-
Remove from oven, decorate with melted chocolate, add a sprinkle of salt, and enjoy!
