Cheesemaking Virtual Class & Kit

June 10, 2023
1:00pm - 3:00pm

If you've been wanting to try your hand at cheesemaking, here's your chance. Long-time CGFC instructor, Anna Barnes is returning to teach you how to make mozzarella and crème fraîche just in time to pair with summer basil, tomatoes, and your favorite savory dishes. Plus, all proceeds from this class will benefit local soup kitchen, Jubilee Cafe. You can use equipment you already have in your kitchen: a nonreactive pot and bowl, fine colander, and a reliable thermometer. The $30 class kit will include local Kilgus Farmstead milk, heavy cream, cultured buttermilk, culturing agents (all vegetarian), kitchen gloves, and butter muslin for collecting the curd.

Tune in to the virtual Zoom cooking class on Saturday, June 10th from 1-3pm. Class kit will be available for pick up on Friday, June 9th from 4-6pm in the Flatlander Classroom.

About Jubilee Cafe:

Jubilee Cafe is a community feeding program of Community United Church of Christ adjacent to the University of Illinois campus in Champaign. Jubilee provides a free hot meal to anyone in need on Mondays from 5 to 6:30 pm. Since October 2017, Jubilee has provided meals to members of our community including families of the DREAAM program and the women and children of Austin's Place during the height of the pandemic. If you have time and are so inclined, we can always use volunteers especially during summer. Please see tinyurl.com/2h6n2kcx

About the instructor:
