Plant, Seed & Garden Supply Swap
Plant, Seed & Garden Supply Swap
Join us for a free Plant, Seed, and Garden Supply swap on Saturday, April 16th from 10am-12pm in our mall hallway. We welcome everyone to bring plants, seeds, tools, cuttings, soil, pots, trays, & other supplies to share! Plus, enjoy a special pop-up shop from Plantify, a local plant store in Champaign!
Any leftover supplies will be donated to community gardens in town.
Event is in partnership with CU Plant People & Plantify!
-
Bring your garden seeds & healthy, labeled (species/common name) potted plants or cuttings ( rooted or unrooted). Package cuttings accordingly so they won't suffer too much out of water during the swap.
-
Don't be afraid to ask the group for help ID-ing beforehand if you're unsure of what you are bring to the table(s).
-
Leave diseased, pest-ridden, or obviously struggling plants at home!
-
Bring plant accesssories (planters, propagation stations, soil, plant tags, tools, fertilizer, whatever). There will be lots of nursery pots shared from Plantify, so avoid dropping off any heavily used/worn in pots (they'll be discarded).
-
Most of the swap is loosley "bring one, take one" - you'll drop your offerings on one of the tables and walk around taking what appeals to you. No haggling/negotiations required. It's basically a free-for-all!
-
If you have higher-value items that you want to trade for other high-value items, there will be a table just for that. "High-value" is up to the owner to define. We have allowed sales at this table in the past, but the preference is to swap.
-
Do not be afraid to treat "high-value" items as ordinary items that you just drop on a table for someone to take (even in exchange for their spider plant baby). Make someone's dreams come true!
-
Depending on how many tables we have available, we may have a service table where people can trade for services, e.g., repotting.
-
We have ALWAYS had leftovers at the end, so if you have nothing to swap and are newer in your plant journey, this is a good time to come. Help us rehome some of the dregs (these tend to be common items like spider babies, aloe pups, pothos clippings, and garden divisions).
-
Masks are encouraged at this event.
