What do you grow? What is your signature product?
I sell primarily apples, pears, concord grapes and plan to sell asparagus, blackberries, and raspberries as they come to maturity.
Where is your farm located? How many miles do you travel to reach Common Ground?
I live about 20 miles NW of Champaign.
For how long have you been farming?
My mother and father started us early with vegetable and honey growing to supplement family income. I have lived at my currently location since 1981.
What is the origin of the apple trees in your orchard?
The varieties include heirloom varieties from popular mail order orchards. The varieties I have are Arkansas Black, Rome, Winter Banana, Winter Heritage, Wolf River, Granny Smith, and McIntosh.
Describe your farming practices?
I am dedicated to irrigation from our well during dry spells, keeping areas free of undergrowth, and close observation to remove pests and damaged branches.
What do you enjoy most about farming?
Harvest and feasting.
