I visited my first Co-op in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1997. I was going to a small college there and became a vegetarian. I was excited by the community I observed there but I didn't yet consider becoming involved. I graduated with a degree in opera and began a graduate degree at LSU, realizing soon after relocating there that I didn't have the ambition to be a professional musician. My inner voice led me back to my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio before I settled in Chicago. There I began shopping at a Co-op just south of my homestead in Rogers Park. It was then that I began talking to people in the Co-op/whole foods community, slowly learning how to expand my eating repertoire from simply being a junk food vegetarian! Five years later I moved to Chambana and began working at Strawberry Fields. Upon becoming Produce Manager, I discovered my passion for vegetables and fruits, making it my mission to stock as much local produce as I could get my hands on. I found family and support at Fields, which helped me to hear my inner voice very clearly. I realized the importance of my eating choices, my politics and my need to spend my precious time in this life contributing to a community that shares my vision. The moment I heard of the Grocery Manager opening I sought Jacqueline out and made my voice heard. I am proud to take on the challenge of helping to take care of our Co-op as my predecessors have so beautifully done. I share my home with my three feline roommates -- Maggie Mae, Mr. Kitty and Harry. We enjoy walks in our courtyard, good music and now, good Co-op food.
